Your hosts

From 2022, Danielle Baumgartner and Roland Urech welcome you to the Camel House.

TWO SWISS IN lANZAROTE

Before the Swiss couple took charge of the Camel House, they lived and worked in the CASAS VOLCAN in Tahiche, not far from Arrecife, the capital of the island. In this group of houses, originally built by the artist Stipo Pranyko, Danielle and Roland created an inspirational place with a force that attracted many visitors to spend time there and to enjoy and get to know it. For more than ten years both of them restored and refined this enormous work of art., filling it with life and love. But not only the colour, the materials, the shapes and the artistic objects transformed CASAS VOLCAN into this marvellous and unique place, the music did not delay in moving it on too. Danielle’s bright and warm voice rang through the CASAS and a great variety of musicians came and went. They held concerts and the beautiful melodies filled every corner of this almost magical place.

THE CAMEL HOUSE LOOKS
FOR A SUCCESSOR

The proverb says, “you have to leave when you are at your best”. And so, after many years, Danielle and Roland felt that the moment had come to do something new. When they saw the news that Sir Ernest Hall was looking for a successor for the CAMEL HOUSE, it was like a stroke of fate. CASAS VOLCAN was left in good hands and Danielle and Roland prepared themselves for a new adventure. The famous Lanzarote camel barn was waiting to be brought to life again.

“The camel house captivated me from the first moment that I saw it. I had no interest in buying the property but the minute I saw the camel house I became passionate to buy it to create a performance space and my instinct was right. It became a magical performance space inspiring audiences and performers.

I am delighted that the new owners are continuing to run the camel house having been enchanted by a performance their before. I am delighted that the camel house will continue under their direction and it continues with all my blessings for a new and exciting future.”

– Sir Ernest Hall, Founder of the CAMEL HOUSE
